Typing our own script, for anyone who wants to.
Why this exists
Plenty of Ethiopians type English quickly and hunt for keys in Amharic. That is not a lack of skill: a fidel takes one to four keystrokes depending on the letter and the keyboard, and nothing free taught that in order, from the beginning.
Where the course came from
Letters are ordered by how often they actually appear in written Amharic rather than by chart position, so the work pays off early: by the end of stage two you can type about three quarters of ordinary text. The frequency counts come from the corpus shipped with the site, and the whole curriculum is generated from them — it is a build artefact, not a hand-written list.
Keyboards
The three input methods disagree: ሄ is hie under Keyman and hE under Linux IBUS. No keystroke is written into a lesson anywhere — every hint is resolved against the keyboard you actually use, and a test checks all three on every build.

What we keep about students
You can learn without an account — progress lives on your device. With one, we hold a name, an email and an age range. If you are in a class, your teacher sees your speed, your accuracy and that range: not your exact age, and nothing else. Gender was collected once, served no feature, and has been removed.
Who built it
Built by A. Wondosen. Corrections are welcome — particularly on the Amharic, and particularly if you can supply a citation for a quotation we have had to hold back for want of one.
